Susan May Warren's delightfully funny heroine is at it again ... P.J. Sugar finds herself in Double Trouble this time!double_trouble

With one solved case under her belt, PJ Sugar is ready to dive into her career as a private investigator. Or at least a PI’s assistant until she can prove herself to Jeremy Kane, her new boss. Suddenly PJ’s seeing crime everywhere. But is it just in her head, or can she trust her instincts? When she takes on her first official case—house-sitting for a witness in protective custody—Jeremy assures her there’s no danger involved. But it soon becomes clear that there is someone after the witness . . . and now they’re after PJ, too.

Double Trouble is the second book in the PJ Sugar series and it does not disappoint!

Ruth at Book Talk and More
I’m really glad I read the first two PJ Sugar books back-to-back. PJ’s story isn’t limited to standalone adventures – having the momentum that comes from reading her first two adventures back-to-back, it’s easy to see Warren’s superb characterization. The spiritual truths resonate because Warren’s characters are so wonderfully, achingly well-drawn and relatable. I also loved how Warren explores the idea of choosing between good and better throughout the book. Through PJ’s character, Warren forces readers to confront the issue of trusting God – not settling for the good, but daring to dream and reach for an as-yet unknown future that He’ll walk one through each step of the way, if only we’ll invite Him on the journey. Double Trouble contains all of the elements that made PJ’s first adventure a success – snappy dialogue, well-drawn characters, and a page-turning plot. It ups the ante with more intense action, a better mystery, and a compelling spiritual thread that, if you let it, will encourage and inspire you to embrace God’s grace and provision. I can’t wait for book three!

Melody at Kids, Cakes, Dishes, Laundry…In That Order
The story is filled with all the things I loved about the first book... Romance, mystery, and lots and lots of laugh-out-loud humor make this yet another of my favorite Susan May Warren books. It's a fun and entertaining read that holds your attention and leaves you wanting more.

Michelle at From His Heart to Mine

As soon as I started reading this book, I found myself doubled over in laughter.  The first few chapters had me wiping tears from my eyes as I met the heroine in this story, PJ Sugar.  She is flawed, fearless, confident, desires success, and the queen of wit.  I love this character, love her humor even more, and enjoyed watching her battle the bad guys, with donut holes even!  HA!  This is one book you will need to read, especially if joy is missing from your life and you find yourself wanting to cheer on an unlikely heroine.

Kathryn at Home Spun Soul
An easy read, but definitely kept you thinking.  I don't usually like mystery books, but this one was sort of mystery light and even I could think up a few outcomes that were valid, although Susan completely surprised me by the ending.  Very good.  I liked it.  It also seemed that Susan had a realistic balance of God and life.  I'm a pastors wife and some of the Christian fiction can go a bit heavy, even for me.  I felt it was a good book to give to a searching friend.

Leticia at My Daily Trek
This book had me guessing until the very end on who the villain was. This book was funny, had drama, action and even in somewhere in the middle a cool grandma with a lot of spunk. Okay, okay, enough said I want you all to read this book and enjoy it as much I did. I am looking forward to the next installment. No pressure on you Susan.

Elizabeth at Texas Joy
PJ Sugar is a girl so many of us can identify.  She desperately wants to find something she’s good at and to chart the course of her life. Great, fun series by one of my absolute favorite Christian authors!

Laura at Lighthouse Academy
PJ Sugar is a realistic heroine, struggling with past demons, and trying to make sense out of her life and figure out who she is. I had to admire the way PJ’s mind works and her quick thinking when danger comes calling.

Kaylea at My Scrappy Life
I really like the PJ Sugar series. Warren has created a fun, true to life character in PJ Sugar (but two novels in we still don't know what PJ stands for...). PJ is smart, she takes risks and above all, she is trying to live her faith in an authentic way.

Lori at Laurel's Reflections

Julie at The Surrendered Scribe
I loved this book.  Susan May Warren is so effective at weaving a wonderful engaging story that sheds light on the message God has for our hearts.  We're trouble, too.  I goof up, mess up, trip, stumble and fall often.  Double Trouble reminds me that God's not looking for perfection, He's looking for willing.  He'll do the rest. Double Trouble offers action, suspense, humor, romance, and a great use of movie trivia to bring characters together.   I can't wait for the next book.

Erin at Connected to Christ
Right away, I was drawn into Double Trouble and grew especially fond of our investigator in training, PJ Sugar. I believe every woman both young and old can relate with Pj in someway or another. The characters are real, and if you love a little mystery, romance, and adventure this book is for you.  I know I’m looking forward to Pj’s next adventure!

Deborah at Books, Movies and Chinese Food
When PJ Sugar isn't on a stakeout with donuts or fending off marriage proposals from ex boyfriends, she's trying to make sure she's still able to fit into her new life as a private investigator and back in hometown. What I like about PJ is that she's not Nancy Drew but she's not a bumbling detective either. She manages to solve the case but still injects a lot of humor while doing it.

Valerie at Tea Time with Valerie
Whether she's stopping suspects by hurling doughnuts through the air, or stopping fastballs with her softball mitt, PJ's heart remains true to her Savior. This delightful read shows PJ's weaknesses and strengths, as well as her dedication to God, even when she doubts.

2/10
Jane at at Winning Reading
This book was a pleasure to read. A good mystery, a touch of romance with two potential suitors, and a perfectly human heroine. The cast includes "interesting" Russian inlaws, a colorful hairdresser in need of a double, an eccentric aging actress, a SERIOUS softball team, and an assortment of possible villains. Not to mention the assortment of colorful vehicles... And donuts... I was going to say this book was pure fun, but with all the adventure and life-threatening drama, that wouldn't be quite accurate, though pretty close to the truth.

Christy at Critty Joy
Of course I have not met a Susan May Warren book that I have not loved! Double Trouble is no exception! I knew when I was laughing out loud three pages in that I was in for a crazy ride with PJ and pals. I found myself really connecting with the characters and understand the flow of emotions from each. I could not think of a word to describe PJ after I finished book one but in book two I realized just how tenacious PJ is. I found myself enjoying the story even more with knowing PJ’s background and I could not help but relate to her as she tries to find her footing in this oh so crazy world. PJ is easy to love and understand because she is so like us. She is flawed. Far from perfect. She messes up just like me. I find a comfort in knowing Susan May Warren has created a character that is so like many of us….it makes me feel almost normal.

CeeCee at Book Splurge
Of all the mysteries in the story, the one that kept me turning pages is wondering if P.J would finally find the self worth and purpose she longed for. P.J’s character is so flawed and lovable you just have to root for her all the way through the novel.  I just wanted to hug P.J through her self-doubt and was glad when P.J. found someone to show her just how God sees her.

Melissa at Bibliophile's Retreat
Warren has delivered another lightning quick cozy mystery packed with twists, turns and plenty of adventure for nearly any reader.

Dineen at Kittens Come From Eggs

Donna at Write By Faith
First let me say I love Susan May Warren. She has an amazing gift as a writer and is able to write in several different genres. If you haven't read this you should. It is witty and humous and I love P.J.Sugar. The story is fast paced and you will likely stay up late to finish reading it. I read Nothing but Trouble the first book in the series as have been hooked. P.J. is a messy character with plenty of flaws we can all identify with. The humor is laugh out loud funny and the message still comes through clearly. Absolutely loved it.

Pamela at Day Song Reflections
In my opinion, Susan May Warren is one of the most versatile authors in Christian fiction today. She can take a great romance and jazz it up with plenty of humor and suspense in one book, then turn around and write seriously compelling suspense. And in every book, she deftly weaves a message of faith and lessons in life that leave the reader with something to ponder besides a good story. Double Trouble met all my expectations. Double Trouble is a delightful tale filled with humor, quirky characters, action, suspense, and yes, a double dose of romance.

Jill Elizabeth at Artistic Blogger
Fun romp from a best-selling author!

Leave it to PJ to figure it out, but with panache and style that'll keep you in stitches. Susan May Warren hits another one out of the park!

The second one [book] was just as good – if not better ...

Phee at Pix-N-Pens
One reason for you to read this book is that it has one of the best closing lines I’ve read in a long time. But don’t skip to the end or you’ll spoil the best part of the book.

Vera at Luxury Reading
I found it to be quite entertaining and fun. Despite the seemingly dark subject matter, the novel managed to be lighthearted and the characters' witty banter kept me glued to the pages. PJ Sugar's instincts pulled her in all the wrong directions and I was taken along for the ride, not even suspecting who the actual culprit might be.

Amy at Amy’s Random Thoughts
PJ struggles with trusting God, like most of us, which is another way that I can relate to her! Another great read by Susan!!! I'm loving these books!!! You never know what PJ is going to get into or where she is headed.

Tasra at tasra mar | transform
Susan is one of those writers who pulls you in at the beginning and draws you closer as the story unfolds. She doesn’t disappoint in her latest release! Combining mystery with romance and humor, Double Trouble really hits the heart of what so many readers want… a little mystery, light-hearted escape, and good clean fun.

Peggy at Go Ahead and Wear Purple
I loved every page, moving from laughter to “Oh, no!” and back again. I can’t say much more, and I can’t say enough. This is a must read if you like suspense mixed with romance and light comedy. IT’s a winner, Susan!

Cara at Cara's Musings
This book has great humor and the right taste of suspense/mystery to keep it fun. Add in the romance -- sort of -- and you've got a fun read.

Amy at My Friend Amy
Whenever I want to read a fun Christian fiction novel with some humor, heart, and the just the right tone of romance, I turn to Susan May Warren. She is hands down one of my favorite Christian fiction authors for this very reason, I always enjoy her books and the romance! It's always just right, without being ridiculous. I love the way Susan May Warren writes romance. There's a scene where PJ is watching Roman Holiday and talking on the phone with Jeremy that's just...melt your heart perfect. Needless to say? I'm Team Jeremy.

Witty and fun! Susan May Warren has a winner with PJ Sugar. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. PJ is a woman trying to find her way through life. She is funny and manages to create trouble wherever she goes. The book is a mystery but it is really funny too! At several points, I found myself laughing out loud.

Kelli at The Zen of Motherhood
There is suspense, there is romance, and, because it's PJ, there is trouble. And, it all adds up to a fantastic read.

Lynetta at Open Book
Susan May Warren’s knack for infusing beautiful, scriptural truths into an uproariously funny story is what makes this Trouble series so great. As a new believer, PJ is learning how to live by grace, which isn’t an easy feat, even for a long-time Christian. I’d recommend this book to anyone who likes a good PI novel, but as a word of caution, don’t open it if you have other obligations. Once you start reading, you won’t be able to stop!

Betsy at Writer at Large
Susie is the equivalent of an author rockstar, and her characters are the same. This is another must-read by Susie (but aren't all of her books that way??!) =) Don't miss it.

Susan at His Morning Glory
Susan May Warren is one of those authors that I turn to whenever I want to get away from the world. She creates characters and scenarios that draw you in so completely that dogs can bark, kids can fight, and stomachs can growl to no avail -- I'm not deterred! Double Trouble pulled me from my petty failures into PJ Sugar's megacrises instantly! PJ Sugar represents every woman who tries hard to succeed at all she does, but seems only to end up over extended and not quite meeting the expectations of herself and others. Susan's writing style will have you cheering for her and wishing you could just hug her and tell her it will be ok. This is a thoroughly enjoyable book, and I can't wait to read the next in the series.

Anna at 4 Kiddos at Home
I had the sheer pleasure of reviewing a wonderful modern detective book by Susan May Warren! PJ Sugar is the main character in the story, and she is one of those women that everyone can relate to.  She is always over extending herself, she is always on the cusp of something big, and she is a magnet to chaos.  Just when I think things can't get any crazier in my own life, it's a bit of a relief to pick up Warren's new novel, and see what PJ has gotten herself into!

Beth at The Writing Road
You've got to love a girl who fends off criminals with donut holes, dons a wig and faux tattoos for the sake of an investigation, and wants to follow God more than the lure of her past life--and love. I confess to shouting with glee when I received my copy of Double Trouble, while holding off my daughter, who soon realized she'd have to wait in line to read Susan May Warren's second installment in the PJ Sugar series. My shouting soon gave way to laughing out loud.  One of the things I appreciate about Warren's writing style is how she so effortlessly weaves spiritual truths into a fun, fast-paced novel. In some Christian fiction, the story grinds to halt with a "We now interrupt your regularly scheduled reading while the author imparts a spiritual lesson" moment. Not so in Warren's books.

Pat  at Sometimes I Feel Like a Piece of Bologna
Double Trouble is quirky, but fun.

Tina O Joy of My Life
I'm a serious fan of Susan May Warren's work. She's got a great sense of the ridiculous, and an easy, unpreachy way of looking at the divine. Each character is very real, and PJ's quest for spiritual truth is written in a totally accessible way. No one is perfect, and some of us struggle with our imperfections more than others. You've got to read the book (which works just fine as a stand-alone) to find out how (or if) PJ reconciles her troubled past with her present; and maybe even her future.

Nicole at Ramblings by Nicole
It reminded me a lot of a Janet Evanovich novel I read, except because Double Trouble is written from a Christian perspective, I enjoyed it much, much more! The characters are unique and endearing, Susan's style is fresh and easy to read, and I found myself smiling through pretty much the entire book!

Mark at Thoughts of a Sojourner
Not only is it a good mystery, it also is a humorous story. Though more geared for women, I got into the story and probably liked the book as well as a woman reading it would. :-) The characters in the book were real, likable, and amusing.

Tara at Tara's View on Books

Denise at Under the Boardwalk
PJ's realization that she need not be perfect to be wanted, needed and content shined through loud and clear.  Looking forward to the next installment in the series.

Amy at The 160 Acre Woods
Well first off, Susan May Warren is one of my favorite authors – she never fails to push me with her characters and bring out issues that effect me spiritually or thoughts that I need to deal with in the midst of sleuthing and adventure in this book.    She makes reading fun.   I love that I feel like I’m reading about a friend.. or rather that I’m just lost in the book so much that I’m talking with a friend, or that I’m part of the story; to me, that makes a great book.

Stacey at Word Up
Susan May Warren has truly outdone herself with this comical, meticulously plotted sequel. Her narrative creates a moving picture in the mind’s eye, and is accented by witty dialogue. And speaking of accents, her phonetic Russian and Russian-accented English conversations are sheer perfection! On more than one occasion, I found myself reciting these lines and cracked myself up!

Molly Book Reviews by Buuklvr81
Susan May Warren's books have become some favorites of my mine. Will I recommend them to others??? Most definitely!!! Especially Double Trouble. As I said, I think it is even better than Nothing but Trouble, with all the laughter, amazing new and old friends and the fact that there is one thing woven in between the pages.....a message of love from God!! I can't help but give Double Trouble a 5 star rating! It is so good and I can't wait for the release of PJ's continuing story in book #3.

As usual, Susan May Warren delivers a light-hearted, funny tale, and I can always see a little bit of myself in her characters. If you are looking for a fun, contemporary story about a woman who does not have everything in her life running perfectly (sound familiar?), be sure to check out Double Trouble.

Kara at Ramblings-n-Writings
Double Trouble is a fun book with mishaps that one can’t help laughing out loud at. I’m definitely keeping my eyes peeled for the next book in the series. Anyone who has that much drama in life is definitely worth reading about!

Suzanne at There's No Place Like Home
Susan May Warren never disappoints and this book is the fun ride that you've been waiting for.

Wendy at It's Just Me
I knew I was going to like it because I like books that are - quirky, fun, a little bit of love, excitement, easy reading, and just all round enjoyable (and this book has it all)! I found myself giggling all throughout the book. The main character, PJ is VERY likable. Actually I loved her! She reminded me of Sandra Bullock in "Miss Congeniality".

Becky at In the Pages…
Warren has come up with a character, PJ Sugar, that is an absolute riot!  She kept me laughing and yet compelled to finish to find out how she solves her mysteries.  What a great series - I am hoping there are more to come!  I know our library patrons will think this one is a hit so I will be waiting to share this hilarious series with them!!

Elizabeth at Suzy Q Homemaker
I really enjoyed the story.  It was easy to get caught up in the mystery to the extent that I could not put it down; I stayed up way past my bedtime reading just so I could know what happened next.  It’s books like this–the ones that keep me up–that I love the most. What I liked most about this book was the way PJ grew as a person.  I’m the same age as PJ, and though our lives are completely different by comparison, it’s comforting to know that even at our age, we don’t have to have everything figured out.

A fun read.

Laura at Calico Critic
As with Nothing But Trouble, Double Trouble would make a great choice for teen girls, as the material is very clean and deals with many of the identity struggles that adolescents face.  PJ is an inherently nice girl, although she can be mischievous and get herself into some harrowing scrapes from time to time. She's also committed to her new life as a Christian, and this is reflected in the choices she makes in her love life. Laura also reviewed book 1, Nothing But Trouble!

Sherry at My Home Sanctuary
I enjoyed the story. I enjoyed the way that Ms. Warren developed the characters. I am looking forward to the next installment of P.J.'s story.

Audrey at Brizmus Blogs Books
This book was so much fun! PJ Sugar will, without a doubt, charm you away from your problems one laugh at a time. She is a very identifiable character. The random things that happen to her and the trouble she gets into will have you laughing your pants off - not just because it's so ridiculous and ludicrous, but because it's so easy to understand how some of the things that happen to her MIGHT happen. It's so easy to relate when different versions of the same things have most likely happened in your life. And PJ herself is so fun and funny and likable and gutsy and goofy that you almost just want to pat her on the back and say "Ohhh, PJ!" when bad things happen to her. The love triangle was also sort of fabulous. With love triangles, I almost always find myself rooting for the boy with whom the girl does not end up, but in this case, well, I just can't decide. I love them both so much, and I love PJ with them, and well, let's just say I thought this love triangle was done in a fresh, fun way, and I'm still curious to see how it's going to turn out.

Pattie at Fresh Brewed Writer
The mystery in this book is wonderfully multi-layered. Through it all, PJ searches for her true self, and learns that even when those you love want you to go back to the way things used to be, sometimes you just can't go back. Or, you don't want to. Tension, tension. Also reviewed book 1, Nothing But Trouble!

Annette at NET'S BOOK NOTES
I liked this story because 1) I love Susan’s voice. Humor, great word-smithing, skillful story crafting. 2) She weaves stories that keep you turning pages. This isn’t a nail-biter, but you’ll be intrigued through the end by more than one thread. 3) Her leading characters are too fun to ignore. Susan makes it look easy to write this well. I recommend this story to anyone who likes romance, mystery, suspense, a light read, and/or Christian fiction with a subtle (yet profound) message.

Amy at My Overstuffed Bookshelf
The character is likeable and she draws you into her world just to find out what is coming next. Not only does the book have great mystery, but the author throws in a love triangle that leaves you rooting for all the people involved.

Lizzy at A Dusty Frame
The characters are fun and the stories are well written. She keeps you guessing and just when you know you’ve figured out the mystery, she throws in a twist that leave s you reading like crazy to figure out what’s happening. Also reviewed book 1, Nothing But Trouble!

Do you love suspense, a little romance, and murder-mysteries, but want it to still be based on a foundation of faith in Christ? Well I have an awesome book to share with you! I just finished Susan May Warren’s newest novel in the story of the life of PJ Sugar. I truly enjoyed this book from beginning to end and read it in a matter of days!  Warren fills the story with great wit and does a great  job with the characterization.

Heather at Faith, Family and Fun
I am in love with this series! With 5 children, one with a newly diagnosed special need, I am hard pressed to focus on anything. Suffice it to say, I am a hard critic. I will not even consider books I know I may not “get” into easily. I am normally a book lover, but with so much going on, I am viewing my reading pile warily— Within the pages of this book, you can follow PJ as she tries to figure out how to solve crimes and protect witnesses. Ironically, as PJ solves the puzzles other people throw at her, she also figures out who she is…and who she wants to be. The book is a mixture of Mystery and Chick Literature. The Christian message permeates the story and really speaks of God’s love, which suits the characters very nicely (enough said…no spoilers, here). I give this one a high 5. I have to say, I totally recommend both books. Also reviewed book 1, Nothing But Trouble!

Warren's writing is never cliched and she delights in upending readers' expectations. This is one series that I hope lasts for twenty or more books!

Sarah at Jane Austen, Chai Tea & Me
Susan May Warren is only getting better and better! I just had to pass this book on to my sister, and shes devoured both of the books in this series in days! We can’t wait for the third!

Krista at Welcome To Married Life
I highly recommend this book, it's funny and keeps you guessing til the end. I really like the PJ's character. She's real and seems to never be able to do things right. This is a Christian book, but it never seems over done to me. Just a girl making mistakes and trying to figure out how to do life right.

Mindy at Ponderings of the Heart
I loved the second book in the PJ Sugar series and I think you will, too! Matter of fact, I've loved every book by Susan May Warren that I've had the privilege to read!

Angela at Renee's Reads
The PJ Sugar series has become my favorite series by Susan May Warren. Once again Susan has captured the everyday struggles with our faith that we all face. How many times have you found yourself in the same position as PJ, struggling within yourself with day to day decisions regarding following your own path or the path that God has chosen for you? I think that is one of the reasons why I have connect with the character’s in these books because they are true to life. Susan May Warren has a knack for creating amazing characters that stand out and stay with you. This book has truly inspired and uplifted me. It has also reminded me to “Draw with confidence to the throne of grace”. Both books are the perfect mystery novels that will uplift, inspire and entertain the reader. Also reviewed book 1, Nothing But Trouble!

Revka at Our Family Porch
The books are written in Mrs. Warren's signature style, which includes plenty of witty dialogue and engaging narrative. What I didn't expect, although I probably should have, was that I would so deeply relate to P.J. Sugar, the heroine of this series. If you are looking for a hilariously entertaining yet thought-provoking story, you will love both of the PJ Sugar books. Honestly, you'll love any book written by Susan May Warren.

Amy at Girlfriends Get Real
I fell in love with the character PJ Sugar from the beginning as she struggled to find her place. I love a good mystery book and these books are light mystery's that keep you guessing, plus they add an element of fun and laughter.

I loved the first book in this series so much that I started reading this one thinking it couldn't be as good. I was wrong. PJ is like no other character I've read about. She's quirky, funny, and never has to look for trouble, it has a way of finding her. I loved reading more about the characters from the first book and thought the new characters were just as well written. This is great feel good book that is full of laughs and the right amount of twists, a whodunit that is thrilling without going over to the dark side. I loved this book and hope the author brings PJ back to us through many more books. Susan May Warren is very gifted writer who is now in my top 3 favorites.

This was so much fun.

Nicole at Gidget Goes Home
PJ Sugar is one of the most fun and likable, if imperfect, heroine I’ve read in a contemporary fiction novel in a long time. She’s spunky, looking to make a difference and turn over a new leaf, and she’s real. I love how she is constantly struggling to become a new creation, and live a new life, while battling her old reputation in a small town. Susan May Warren is such a talented writer, who knows how to weave together romance, suspense and the search for a meaningful life.

Jennifer at Jen's Book Talk

Dana at Scrap Therapy
Both books in the series are cute with fun characters. I like that although it is Christian based, it isn't preachy. Without a doubt, PJ's sister's father in law is my favorite character. Glad that he can't sunbath in my backyard!

Rel at Relz Reviewz
Humour and suspense abound in equal measure yet it is the multi layered characterisation of PJ, Jeremy and Boone that gives this story a unique perspective. The reader feels just as unsure of the outcome as PJ as she wrestles with her natural affinity for trouble and heartache with her desire to live her faith and see herself as God sees her.

Deborah at Lyric Devotion
The more I read, the more impressed I was. Susan has created so many interesting characters in this story, I just had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen to some of them...in particular, Gabby, an elderly lady who seemed to have led a pretty interesting life....or was it all imagination, perhaps a sign of alzheimers? But I won't give any of the story away!
